Former sheriff, Rep. Burnett, talks about what works and what doesn’t when rehabilitating criminals.
Rep. Brian Burnett has over 25 years in law enforcement including 12 years as the Chelan County Sheriff. In this video, he talks about what works and what doesn’t work when it comes to rehabilitating criminals. He gives real life examples from his lived experience and talks about the difference between career criminals and those who are first-time offenders. HB 1119 removes the incentive structure from community supervision by allowing individuals to earn credits without demonstrating progress toward reintegration goals. This shift turns the credit system into more of a punishment tool than a reward for positive behavior, weakening accountability and undermining both public safety and sound policy.
