Rep. Brian Burnett, R-Wenatchee, and Rep. Mike Steele, R-Chelan, join KOZI Radio’s Jeff Conwell for a legislative update on the 2026 legislative session. Steele discusses the bipartisan capital budget, giving details on some of the state’s construction projects that are in the pipeline and his efforts to ensure capital budget dollars are spent wisely and with transparency. Burnett talks about public safety and why it’s important to keep accountability and oversight of locally-elected county sheriffs in the hands of the voters, not unelected bureaucrats. He further outlines his efforts in the public safety realm.
Both lawmakers weigh in on the Democrat proposal to install a new state income tax on high earners. They express their firm opposition to a new state income tax, questioning it’s constitutionality, necessity, and whether or not it will eventually apply to ALL Washingtonians.
