Radio Report: Burnett stalking supervision bill passes House unanimously
A bill to strengthen supervision of convicted stalkers has cleared the Washington House of Representatives. John Sattgast reports from Olympia.
SATTGAST: Lawmakers in the House unanimously approved legislation Wednesday from Representative Brian Burnett closing a gap in state law by adding stalking convictions to community custody supervision.
A former Chelan County sheriff, Burnett told lawmakers victims often live with constant fear.
BURNETT: “Fear is a huge thing in the world that we live in. And for some people it’s a much bigger thing and it’s a crisis.”
SATTGAST: Burnett says House Bill 2510 would ensure offenders remain accountable after conviction.
BURNETT: “This is the right thing to do. This is to help keep people accountable. There’s no person should put them in fear of like that.”
SATTGAST: The bill now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
